Student Partners Program (SPP)

The Student Partners Program (SPP) was developed in partnership between the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC), the Government of Canada and the Canadian High Commission. The objective is to increase the number of study permits and to make the system more efficient. As a partner institution Cambrian College will work closely with visa offices to ensure that students receive their visa/study permit (provided they meet all of the SPP requirements).

This program is currently operating in India and China.  There are differences between SPP India and SPP China. We have outlined the admission guidelines for each below.

How to Apply

Application must be submitted minimum of four weeks prior to the start date of classes. Student Application forms along with further details regarding SPP requirements for visa application are available by selecting the country/territory from which you will be applying on the Government of Canada Customs and Immigration website.

SPP India

Students should meet the following admission guidelines in order to be considered under SPP India. Students who have already applied once under SPP are not eligible to apply a second time under SPP.

Post-Secondary

  • Overall IELTs score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 issued in the past 24 months
  • A study gap no larger than 2 years. Some exceptions made for students with excellent grades and a 3 year gap
  • Admission into a 3 year program – may only have 6 failures. If an applicant has an overall average of 65%, they may accept 8 failures.
  • Admission into a 4 year program – may only have 8 failures. If an applicant has an overall average of 65% they may accept 10 failures.
  • Program must be complimentary and value added to their previous education.
  • Student should have a minimum Second Class of C level with an overall minimum score of 50% in their more recently completed diploma or degree.

Graduate Programs

  • Overall IELTS Score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 issued in the past 24 months.
  • A study gap no larger than 5 years. Some exceptions made for students with excellent grades and a 6 year gap.
  • Admission into a 3 year program – may only have 6 failures. If an applicant has an overall average of 65%, they may accept 8 failures.
  • Admission into a 4 year program – may only have 8 failures. If an applicant has an overall average of 65% they may accept 10 failures.
  • Program must be complimentary and value added to their previous education.
  • Student should have a minimum Second Class of C level with an overall minimum score of 50% in their more recently completed diploma or degree.

SPP China

Students should meet the following admission guidelines in order to be considered under SPP China. Students who have already applied once under SPP are not eligible to apply a second time under SPP.

  • Minimum overall IELTs score of 5.5 with no bands less than 5.0 issued in the past 24 months.
  • OR graduation from a Canadian Curriculum high school in China
