On Wednesday, February 13, representatives from Cambrian College and Honeywell announced details regarding a new public-private collaboration.
Under a recently-signed support agreement, Honeywell will work with the College to review its campus-wide facility and energy needs and identify opportunities to reduce operating expenses and greenhouse gas emissions. In turn, Cambrian will provide training for Honeywell’s building technicians in Canada, along with other professional development services.
Cambrian President Sylvia Barnard and Luis Rodrigues, Vice President of Energy and Environmental Solutions for Honeywell Building Solutions, presented the agreement and explained how it will benefit both parties.
“For Cambrian, this marks the beginning of a long-term relationship that will allow the College to reduce its operating costs, save energy, and maintain our facilities in an environmentally-sustainable manner,” said President Barnard. “By entering into this agreement, Honeywell will gain from our experience and strength in technical training and business education. We’ll work with the company’s employees as they continue to upgrade their skills and credentials to support Honeywell’s business goals.”
“To maintain our competitive advantage, Honeywell needs to give employees the opportunity and tools to develop and succeed, which is even more important as the workforce and skill base thins,” Rodrigues said. “Cambrian College has the technical expertise and established curriculum Honeywell needs to nurture our talented staff. Through this agreement, we can also apply our experience working with dozens of colleges across the country to help Cambrian operate as efficiently and effectively as possible.”
Cambrian College has been a leading postsecondary institution in Northern Ontario since its first classes were held in 1967. The College has a vibrant community of more than 14,000 learners – over 4,500 students in 70 full-time programs, plus over 7,500 students in almost 900 part-time courses/programs. It offers programming at three campuses and online, serving a student population that is reflective of the rich diversity of today’s global workplaces.
The College is pleased to work with Honeywell given the company’s standing as a global technology expert. Honeywell is a Fortune 100 firm that provides the tools and know-how to help customers address safety, security and other difficult challenges. It is also a leader in energy services, working with organizations to conserve energy, improve buildings and infrastructure, and leverage renewable resources.
