E-Business Program Connects Entrepreneurs with Cambrian College Student and Faculty Expertise

Posted on Thursday October 10, 2013

By December 2013, 11 local businesses will have an updated web presence, thanks to 11 third-year students in Cambrian College’s Graphic Design program and funding from the Ontario Centre of Excellence (OCE) Voucher for E-Business (VEB) program.

The projects began in September, after Stacey Kerr, a Small Business Consultant from the Sudbury Regional Business Centre, and Graphic Design professor Sean Grant matched local entrepreneurs with top students who are skilled in web design and visual communication.  The entrepreneurs are treated like real clients, and professor Grant mentors and grades his students on their performance. In some cases, students are building web sites from scratch, which may include sourcing and designing all of the visual elements and producing the text. Other students are focused on updating an existing site or improving online interaction between business owners and their customers.

The VEB project is facilitated through Cambrian Innovates, the College’s Applied Research division, and made possible by $20,000 in funding from the OCE.
