Cambrian College honoured Suzanne Bernier with its prestigious Alumni Award
SUDBURY – At Thursday’s convocation ceremony, Cambrian College honoured Suzanne Bernier with its prestigious Alumni Award. Bernier, a 1988 graduate of the College’s Journalism program, has become known as one of the country’s preeminent emergency management and business continuity consultants.
Bernier has been involved in the response to 1998’s Ice Storm of the Century; the terror attacks of September 11, 2001; the blackout that paralyzed much of the eastern seaboard in 2003; Hurricane Katrina in 2005; and 2012’s Superstorm Sandy. She is a globally-renowned guest speaker, as well as an emergency management instructor at George Brown College and at the Justice Institute of British Columbia.
Bernier began her career as a news reporter and anchor in Sudbury, and later relocated to Toronto’s Queen’s Park to work as a government press secretary and communications advisor before launching her own consulting firm.
An inspiring Cambrian alumna, Bernier is a Premier’s Award nominee and the recipient of the Government of Ontario’s Amethyst Award for Outstanding Achievement, in recognition of her work during the 1998 ice storm.
The Alumni Award recognizes outstanding contributions to Cambrian College and to society through professional excellence and extraordinary service to education. Cambrian is proud of all its more than 45,000 alumni, and is particularly appreciative of those whose outstanding careers and community service inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
