SUDBURY – Cambrian College presented three Awards for Excellence at Thursday’s Rendez-vous celebration, the College’s annual staff and faculty recognition event. This year, the College was pleased to recognize a senior administrator who has worked at Cambrian for more than two decades; a systems analyst whose professionalism and peer support are unparalleled; and the team behind the innovative Virtual Classroom project, which marries learning and technology. The recipients of the President’s Awards for Excellence were nominated by their peers and supervisors for their efforts to achieve their own professional goals and to inspire other members of the Cambrian community to set and achieve the highest standards.

Retiring employees, and those celebrating 5 to 40 years of service, were also honoured at the event.

President’s Award for Excellence – Administration

France Quirion, the Associate VP of Student Services, was honoured for her 28 years of dedicated service to the College. Known for her professionalism and ‘grace under fire,’ Quirion embraces teamwork, supports her staff in their own professional pursuits, and accepts any challenge put before her. A true College leader, she was also instrumental in the establishment of the one-stop enrolment centre.

President’s Award for Excellence – Support Staff

Kelly McDonald, a Systems Analyst with the Enrolment Centre, was recognized for her leadership and dedication to various College endeavours, as well as her professionalism, supportive nature and whole-hearted commitment to Cambrian.  Kelly is known for her integrity, thoughtfulness, attention to detail, as well as her ability to dissect key issues within extreme timeframes.

President’s Award for Excellence – Outstanding service (team)

The Virtual Classroom was designed to merge technology and teaching, and to make postsecondary education accessible to students who are not able to attend the campus in person. The team that developed the project, which included 54 employees from six areas, was lauded for its innovative approach and represents the best example of broad-based collaboration in Cambrian’s recent history. Cambrian’s Interim President, Sonia DelMissier was honoured to present the award to those who contributed to such a deserving initiative.
