Cambrian President to speak to Chamber of Commerce

SUDBURY – On October 30, Cambrian College President Bill Best will speak with members of the Chamber of Commerce as part of its President’s Series.

Best, who assumed the leadership of Cambrian College in August, will share his plans to position the College for growth as it approaches its 50th anniversary in the Ontario college system.

He will speak about the College’s strategic planning process, now underway, and how it will lead to long-term growth for the organization, as well as the communities it supports. He will also discuss ways in which Chamber members can participate in the process and the many opportunities to engage in meaningful conversations about the future of the College and postsecondary education in Canada.

In addition, Best will provide an overview of his key priorities and the impact that the College has had on the economic growth of the community over the past 50 years.

“I look forward to speaking with Sudbury’s business leaders about Cambrian’s role in the community, and the exciting opportunities that lie ahead,” says Best. “These leaders have an extremely important role to play as we roll out our strategic planning process and engage in conversations with stakeholders throughout the community.”

Cambrian College continues to be a leader in Greater Sudbury and northern Ontario. With more than 80 full-time and nearly 900 part-time programs, the College’s staff and students contributed more than $535 million, equivalent to six percent of the gross regional product, to the regional economy in 2012-13.

The returns on investment of a college education are impressive. For every dollar students spend, they incur $3.80 in income; the provincial government sees an added $3.30 in taxes and public sector savings; and Ontario society as a whole receives a cumulative value of $13.70 for every dollar the College spends. Locally, Cambrian students contribute approximately $10.5 million to Greater Sudbury’s economy. Simply put, college makes good sense.

Bill Best speaks to Chamber members on Thursday, October 30 from 12-2 p.m. at Bryston’s On The Park, 5 Creighton Rd., Copper Cliff. For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit www.sudburychamber.ca.
