SUDBURY – The Cambrian Golden Shield volleyball teams kicked off the New Year with a pair of comfortable victories, emerging victorious over their crosstown rivals.
The women’s team set the stage with a 25-12, 25-3, 25-10 win over the Collège Boréal Vipères, with Hailey Chisholmpacing the team with nine kills.
Jillian Vallier, Sara Charlton and Amanda Kring chipped in with four apiece, while Cambrian coach Dale Beausoleil substituted freely, as all 13 players were inserted into the match at some point.
Véronique Brisson and Sophie Bernier-Gagnon countered with six and four kills respectively for the Vipères, still in search of their first win of the season.
Cambrian’s men team was almost as dominant, sweeping Boréal 25-12, 25-13, 25-17, with Stephen Brown and Hayden Kosmerly providing the one-two punch.
Combining for thirteen kills, the tandem were aided by Ryan Martel and Josh Brown, both with four kills apiece. Kyle Chartrand (5 kills) and Tyler Ansell (4) were front and centre for the Vipères.
Both of the Golden Shield teams are back in action on the weekend of January 17th and 18th, taking to the road to face the Sheridan Bruins and Humber Hawks.
