Cambrian College’s Open Studio hosts PrideHouse: Sudbury Celebrates, a local venue to promote LGBTQ-inclusive activities during Pan Am/Parapan Am Games

Posted on Thursday June 25, 2015

As the world readies for the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games, Sudburians are invited to celebrate sports, arts, culture, and competition, while supporting lesbian, gay, bi, trans, and queer (LGBTQ) inclusivity, at Sudbury’s first ever PrideHouse, located downtown at Cambrian College’s Open Studio, 93 Cedar Street, Sudbury.

A PrideHouse is a focused and intentional space for activities and programming targeted to LGBTQ people and their allies, situated within a large games event. The concept has evolved markedly since the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, and today, PrideHouses are gaining popularity as places where inclusion is celebrated; homophobia and transphobia are challenged; and healthy community and societal attitudes are strengthened.

PrideHouse: Sudbury Celebrates will bring the inclusive spirit of PrideHouseTO, which is centred on LGBTQ advocacy throughout the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games, to life locally, offering activities that tie in to local Pan Am/Parapan Am-focused events as well as live sports broadcasts and ceremonies,” explained Pam Pancel, who is a PrideHouseTO Inclusion Ambassador.  “Our steering committee would like to engage as many people as possible to celebrate the spirit of the Games in an intentionally inclusive venue.” Admission is free for all events.
