Innovation for a Greater Sudbury. November 19th starting at 6PM

SUDBURY, ON - Cambrian College, Collège Boréal, Laurentian University, the Regional Business Centre and NORCAT are hosting a free event to empower the community to grow through the development of innovative ideas and new business partnerships. Innovation for a Greater Sudbury will take place Nov. 19 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Science North Vale Cavern. Those who attend will be eligible to win a drone door prize valued at $500.

The event is an opportunity for attendees to learn, collaborate and interact with innovative industry partners, students, funders and researchers. This year’s theme is “Harnessing the Power of Youth for Innovation” and will feature keynote speaker Dr. Reena Dhatt.

Dr. Dhatt is one of the founders of Northeastern Ontario Medical Offices (NEOMO Medical). NEOMO Medical is heavily involved in education at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels by helping medical students and residents get the hands-on learning they need to excel in their field.

“Many educators and employers believe millennials are a challenge, but in my experience they are driven and motivated,” said Dhatt. “Organizations need to empower youth as a strategy to improve innovation within their company and their community.”

Also scheduled for this event is a panel of students and recent graduates from all three postsecondary institutions who will be speaking about their personal experiences with innovation.

The event will give attendees the chance to find out more information about funding programs and grants that can help grow their businesses. Representatives from the Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP), Ontario Centres of Excellence(OCE), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) and FedNor will be present.

Innovation for a Greater Sudbury will conclude with a networking session. Appetizers and a cash bar will be provided by Bryston’s Catering.
