SUDBURY – Selected photography by Cambrian students and faculty will be on display at the College’s downtown Open Studio beginning Thursday, December 3. The exhibition, Beyond Photo 101, features photographic work by first-year Graphic Design and Art and Design Fundamentals students and their instructors, Stacey Lalande and Jason Lind.
The photo exhibit forms part of the students’ work from the past semester, including a shooting assignment in which students were asked to create photos in the style of influential photographers. Faculty works include a number of images taken with a smartphone in order to illustrate that practicing photography with any type of camera will make you a stronger and more practiced photographer.
According to Leesa Bringas, Open Studio Technician, the Beyond Photo 101exhibit is in keeping with Cambrian College’s Open Studio mandate, as it provides the students with real-world experience. “They will be mounting the exhibition, working with professional artists in the community, and showcasing their work alongside Cambrian faculty and other arts professionals in the community in conjunction with the Downtown Sudbury Art Crawl.”
Beyond Photo 101 opens Thursday, December 3. Hours are 12 – 9 p.m., with a special opening reception taking place from 7 – 9 p.m.
After December 3, the gallery hours are: Wednesday – Saturday, 12 – 3 p.m., December 4 to December 23 and January 2 to January 8. Admission is free.
