On Saturday March 5, a brave band of Cambrian College students, staff, and faculty participated in the annual Polar Plunge for Special OIympics Ontario, hosted by the Greater Sudbury Police Service.

The annual event challenges participants to jump into the freezing waters of Ramsey Lake, and to raise awareness and funds for athletes and families involved with Special Olympics Ontario.

Drew Howard, who is a student at Cambrian, collected $350 and was one of the top individual fundraisers. One of the most successful group fundraisers was the Cambrian College team, which included Marc Dupras, Pierrette Paxy, Jessica Guenard-Valiquette and Jari Sundholm. Police foundations students Sara-Marie Sampson, Haley Sullivan and Samantha Taranto also took the plunge and raised a considerable amount for Special Olympics Ontario.

This chilly event is a sight to behold. Local media outlets posted video andphotos online to commemorate the day.
