OPP criminal profiler speaking at Cambrian College

SUDBURY – On Monday, March 7, students in Cambrian College’s Police Foundations program will have an opportunity to meet and to learn from Detective Staff Sergeant Karen Arney, a certified criminal profiler with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Det. Staff Sgt. Arney is one of eight certified criminal profilers in Canada and is the manager of the OPP Criminal Behaviour Analysis Unit.

Throughout her career, she has held positions as a cold case coordinator, was a member of the Regional Crime Team, a member of the Major Investigation Support Team, and completed temporary assignments with the Child Exploitation Unit, Drug Unit, and Coordination Unit. Det. Staff Sgt. Arney has also worked in frontline policing and with sexual assault/abuse issues units.

Her nine years of work as a criminal profiler have brought her into contact some of the most complex and challenging cases faced by law enforcement. Arney joined the OPP in 1992 and spent part of her career as a Sudbury-based Detective.
