Graduating Animation students’ exhibit “jumps off the walls” at Open Studio

Posted on Tuesday April 5, 2016

SUDBURY – Students in Cambrian College’s third-year Animation program are gearing up to showcase their skills and talent at the College’s downtown Open Studio. The Animation Grad Show reception will take place on Thursday, April 7, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The artwork will remain up for public viewing and school tours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. or by appointment.

Animation program coordinator James Munro said that anyone who is curious about the field of animation, the creative processes, the program at Cambrian, or prospective careers should take advantage of the show, and the chance to ask questions at the reception.  “The event on Thursday will be interesting because most of our students do not seek the spotlight, but this is an occasion where they get some attention, along with their work,” Munro said. “Most animators are talented artists who are drawn to the field because they’re ‘closet actors,’” he continued. “You aren’t likely to find them in front of a camera, but the characters they develop are very expressive. Ultimately, animated characters may join human actors on screen, appear in video games, television shows, features, and ad campaigns. The characters may be loved, hated, or laughed at by millions of people.”

Munro explained that many of his graduates become successful artists working in the television and film industries; others choose careers or projects in marketing and digital content creation.

Date: Thursday, April 7, 2016
Time: 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. (reception)
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (April 8-10): 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. or by appt.

Cambrian College’s Animation program is delivered through a partnership with Sheridan College, and is based on Sheridan’s renowned curriculum.
