Approximately 200 college and university students will gather with local mining leaders on Wednesday, February 8 during the seventh annual Mining Day, which will take place at Cambrian College’s eDome.
The event, jointly planned by Cambrian College, Collège Boréal, Laurentian University, and Stantec, allows students to explore mining industry trends through presentations, panel discussions, and networking opportunities.
This year’s theme is mining industry innovation. Discussion topics include the changing race to innovate in order to enhance safety, reduce costs, improve processes, and mitigate environmental impacts. These are all ongoing pressures affecting competitive and innovative mining contractors, operators, supply and service providers, and consultants.
Guest speakers include: Mike Garbutt, Director, Mining Engineering at Stantec; Rod Steele, Owner, TesMan; Douglas Morrison, President, CEO, and Chair in Holistic Mining Practices at CEMI; Kyle Shultz, Mechanical EIT with Redpath Raiseboring Limited, and Lori Martin, Business Development Manager - Geological Data Services at Boart Longyear.
Students will benefit from the opportunity to hear from industry experts during presentations and a panel discussion, and all participants are invited to network at an industry meet-and-greet.
