Posted on Friday March 2, 2018

SUDBURY – 50 years, more than 50,000 graduates, and millions of memories.

Cambrian College is marking its golden anniversary this academic year, and today it unveiled a time capsule as part of the celebrations.

The time capsule, located in the Main Foyer, contains items from the past fifty years, donated by current and former students, staff, faculty, and dignitaries.

The items in the time capsule include everything from 1960s science lab equipment, to varsity athletic wear and episodes of a Cambrian-produced local television series from the 1970s, to pictures of the 1991 visit by His Royal Highness, Charles, Prince of Wales.

“This time capsule is a great way to celebrate Cambrian’s rich history and years of achievement, “ says College President Bill Best. “Cambrian’s graduates span the globe, many of whom are leaders in their fields. We have a lot to be proud of.”

A number of dignitaries were on hand for the unveiling and sealing of Cambrian’s time capsule, including Greater Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger and Sudbury MPP and Ontario Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault, both of whom are Cambrian graduates.

“I am amazed by the number of people I meet who have a connection to Cambrian College,” says Rick Fedec, a former Cambrian administrator and co-chair of the 50th anniversary committee.  “We share our memories and they tell me of the positive impact Cambrian has had on their lives.”

Cambrian’s time capsule will be re-opened in 2067.
