SUDBURY – Cambrian College and the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra (SSO) have formed a partnership that will see some of the finest classical musicians in the region working together to provide instruction and education to students.
Under the partnership, the SSO Conservatory of Music and Cambrian’s Academy of Music have merged, with all lessons provided in the Music facilities at Cambrian’s main campus in Sudbury. Faculty in Cambrian’s Music program will also partner with SSO musicians to provide private lessons to the general public, as well as Cambrian music students.
“This partnership is a logical and positive move towards fulfilling Cambrian’s mandate to innovate and inspire in all its programming,” says Jamie Arrowsmith, Cambrian’s Coordinator of Independent Music Production and Director of String Studies. “This is innovative in that we are engaging in a new and immediately beneficial collaboration with one of Northern Ontario’s premier music organizations to offer exciting new opportunities to students. It is inspiring in that we can introduce Cambrian’s world- class music faculty and top-notch facilities to new audiences with the aim of developing the next generation of performing artists in our region.”
The merger also expands the range of options available to students. Individual and group lessons will be available for orchestral strings, woodwinds, brass, piano, classical guitar, percussion, voice, music theory, and music history.
“The Sudbury Symphony Orchestra is thrilled to work with the Cambrian Academy of Music to better serve students and instructors of the SSO Conservatory of Music,” says Nick Kuchtaruk, President of the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra. “This partnership provides greater access to private music lessons for students of all ages and levels. Students of the Conservatory will benefit from an expanded roster of talented instructors. With a wider range of music lessons and increased instructor availability, this partnership ensures music education will continue to thrive in our community. The SSO would like to thank Cambrian College for its support of this partnership.”
