On February 23, Cambrian College’s Criminal Justice Association (CCCJA), Paragon Security, and Crime Stoppers teamed up to promote a new partnership that aims to make Cambrian and the community a safer place.

Thanks to this new initiative, student volunteers with the CCCJA are engaged in campus outreach campaigns to promote Crime Stoppers, which is a charitable organization that aids law enforcement agencies by taking anonymous tips that may help investigators solve crimes.

The students, many of whom are in Cambrian’s Justice programs, are gaining valuable experience through coordinating their efforts with campus security and Crime Stoppers. “The student volunteers are learning leadership skills by working with professionals and by having conversations with their peers about safety, crime prevention, and the benefit of reporting information to Crime Stoppers or law enforcement agencies,” explained Cynthia Booth, the program coordinator for Cambrian’s Community and Justice Services program and the faculty advisor to the CCCJA.

For Crime Stoppers, the student-to-student outreach means that key messages about reporting tips anonymously will reach a new audience. “Having CCCJA members on board helps us to reach other students on campus who might not be aware of what Crime Stoppers does to help law enforcement agencies, and that our service is completely anonymous,” explained Deborah Rousseau, Crime Stoppers Office and Event Coordinator. “We’re really pleased to launch the partnership in conjunction with the CCCJA and Paragon Security because together we can all make the community and the campus environment safer.”
