It was a million-dollar Monday today at Cambrian College. The Honourable Ross Romano visited Cambrian to make his first major funding announcement as Ontario’s Minister of Training, Colleges, and Universities. Romano announced $1.99 million in funding, through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), for new equipment for Cambrian’s Applied Research Department.
The new equipment includes a 5-axis precision milling machine, an industrial 3D printer, a water-jet cutting machine, and a chemical analysis suite. Minister Romano also announced $484,000 in funding for two pre-apprenticeship skilled trades project, specifically for women. A carpentry pre-apprenticeship is being offered in partnership with the Whitefish River First Nation. A welding pre-apprenticeship program will begin this September at Cambrian’s main campus.
