The Premier’s Awards for graduates of Ontario’s colleges honour the important social and economic contribution college graduates make to Ontario and throughout the world. The awards were launched in 1992 to mark the 25th anniversary of Ontario’s colleges and are administered by Colleges Ontario. Presented annually, the Premier’s Awards for outstanding college graduates honour six outstanding graduates in the following categories:

  • Business

  • Creative Arts and Design

  • Technology

  • Community Services

  • Health Sciences

  • Recent Graduate

Chosen from nominations submitted by Ontario’s 24 colleges, nominees must demonstrate outstanding career success related to their college experience and have made a significant contribution to their community. The individual’s career achievements will be given top priority.

Any graduate of a college program may be nominated. The person must have demonstrated outstanding career success that can be attributed to his/her college education. It is up to each college to decide under which category the nominee should be submitted. Category selection can be based on the program the nominee graduated from or on their career path. Colleges may nominate only one graduate in each category. There is no limit to the number of times a graduate can be nominated over the years.

Persons who have graduated from any college program within the last five years are eligible for nomination in the Recent Graduate category. Since graduating, nominees must have demonstrated promising career success.

All initial nominations are processed by the Cambrian College panel of judges, who will develop a shortlist of official Cambrian College nominees to submit to Colleges Ontario. At that point, the finalized nominees will be assessed by the Colleges Ontario panel of experts in the fields of business, community services, creative arts and design, health sciences, and technology. A recipient will be selected for each of the six categories.

Premier’s Awards winners will be announced at a gala awards evening in November in Toronto. Each award winner is presented with a bronze medal and a framed certificate signed by the Premier of Ontario. A $5,000 bursary that is to be directed to their graduating college is also awarded to each winner.

Each nominee will receive a framed certificate of achievement signed by the Premier of Ontario.
