Prepare for diverse career options in correctional institutions, open and secure custody facilities, group homes, and private agencies.

From day one, you’ll get hands-on experience at the Wendigo Lake Expeditions youth open custody facility, where you'll participate in hands-on activities designed to develop your team-building, facilitation, and leadership skills. This experience will be your first introduction to youth-centered justice services with classes in the remaining semesters effectively comparing and contrasting the unique needs, challenges, and care requirements of at-risk youth, young offenders, and adults.

This will be followed by tours of adult and youth correctional institutions (criminal record check required), scenario training, and a 400-hour placement. Where possible, the location of placement will correspond to your preferred choice of vocation. Field placement is restricted to those who have successfully completed or are completing all required courses.

You’ll also take specialized courses related to corrections and learn from numerous guest speakers currently employed in the field who will share their tips, stories, and an outstanding breadth of knowledge.
