Second Career is an Ontario government program designed to help unemployed workers transition to new careers in growing areas of the economy.
It also assists workers with tuition, books, living expenses and other costs associated with training for a new career. Training can take anywhere from six months to two years. An additional year may be available when academic upgrading is needed.
Do you qualify?
You may qualify for Second Career, if you:
- have been laid off after January 1, 2005,
- are currently unemployed or under-employed, and
- are prepared to commit to a long-term training plan.

How to apply to Second Career
Your first step is to contact an assessment centre for information to determine eligibility.

Following that, make an appointment with the College’s Second Career Advisor. The Advisor will review program offerings and assist in the completion of the application for admission to Cambrian. You will be informed of academic documents you will need to submit with your application as well as any testing that may be required. The Advisor will provide you with documentation you will need as part of your application to Employment Ontario for funding support.
