BREAKING NEWS – The strike by Ontario’s full-time and partial-load faculty, librarians, and counsellors will continue. Union members have rejected the November 6 contract offer from the colleges, during voting supervised over the last three days by the Ontario Labour Relations Board.
We remain hopeful that bargaining can resume in order to reach a settlement. Despite this setback, the academic year is not lost. We will continue to develop our contingency plans for the resumption of classes, by making the necessary adjustments to our semesters and academic calendar to ensure our students can complete their year.
THIS IS WHAT WE CAN CONFIRM AT THIS POINT, IF CLASSES RESUME BY THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 23:
- students will receive 2 days’ notice of a return to classes
- classes will be held until December 20, followed by the winter holiday, which will be held from December 21 to January 3
- for the first three days of classes, there will be no tests, and no assignments will be due
- the Fall semester will resume between January 4-15. Formal exam week has been suspended. More class time will be scheduled with testing at the discretion of faculty.
- the winter semester will begin January 22 and end April 27
- reading week has been cancelled, but an extra day added to the Family Day long weekend.
If classes do not resume by November 23, we will make the necessary adjustments to our plan, contact students directly, and post the changes here and on the myCambrian student portal.
Non-faculty student supports remain available. We are also developing our plans to assist students with unexpected financial hardships they have incurred as a result of the faculty strike. We’ll also provide details of those plans as they become available.
